I am Professor of Economics at  the National University of Singapore (NUS).
I am also ICREA Research Professor at Pompeu Fabra University (on leave), affiliated faculty of the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE), Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), CESifo and IZA, and Research Advisor at Gallup. I served as associate editor for the Journal of the European Economic Association and the European Economic Review, and as member of the editorial panel of Economic Policy.
I study political economy with a focus on the functioning and impact of traditional and new media in democratic societies. My work has been published in top journals in economics, political science, and management, and is regularly featured in the press. My research has been supported by several funding agencies including the European Research Council (ERC) through a Starting Grant, a Proof of Concept Grant and, more recently, a Consolidator Grant.
